Today I ran my 7th 1/2 Marathon...Right after we finished Rock N Roll in Dallas, Angela and Randi decided we should run Heels and Hills in Irving, TX about 6 weeks later...Since I wasn't in shape for the first one, it took a lot for me to sign up for this one knowing my training wasn't going to improve much...I'm telling you between soccer and baseball, I rarely have a free night!!...But this was a smaller race and all women...We wanted to do it last year so we all thought what the heck...In the end, Angela didn't get to run but Shea and Jennifer signed up with Randi and I....Shea and I headed down to Irving last night and got to the hotel around 8:30...Randi and Jennifer both had plans and didn't get to the hotel until almost midnight!!!...Shea and I laughed at how we really weren't mentally prepared nor did it even feel like we were running a half marathon the next morning...We weren't nervous or anxious at all...5:30 am came too early as always but our hotel was less than 3 miles from the start line...The good thing about uncrowded craziness is that you can park and walk over there in a matter of minutes...The race started at 7:30 am and it was a fairly cool morning in the 40's....But it warmed up nicely...
You ran on the city trail for basically an out and back but there were several different trails so you kind of went off a little bit so not so many people were coming and going at the same time which was nice..The sun was warm at times but the trail provided some nice shade...Jennifer and I took it nice and super easy knowing our legs might not be ready for 13.1...She started fading a little at mile 7 and her knee was bothering her...So I took off on my own at mile 8...I was determined to not walk any like I did RnR in March...I was tired by mile 10 but I was able to finish at 2:25 and that was my goal I thought I could make at the pace we were going the first half...Mile 13 was my fastest of the whole race and it felt good to finish!
I loved how our names were on the bibs..The water volunteers would be like "Good morning Kendra" and it was weird and neat hearing your name...I would definitely sign up for this one again..I'm determined to be in great shape for my next half...My #7 is done!!
